Some more relevant quotes by Vivekananda The scriptures like the Bible and the Quran were paurusheya, that is, revelations accessible only to particular persons whose experience could not be verified by other people. The Vedas, on the other hand, were apaurusheya, that is, statements of spiritual truths which any seeker could verify by spiritual practice.

Christian baptism is external and did not touch the inner man. Baptism is like the Kenopanishad in this context: What were the great powers of Christ,he asked, in miracles and healing, in one of his characters? They were low, vulgar things because he was among vulgar beings Any fool could do those things. Fools heal others, devils can heal others. I have seen horrible demoniacal men do wonderful miracles. They seem to manufacture fruits out of the earth. I have known fools and diabolical bnana tell the past, present and future.

I have seen fools heal at deelam glance, by the will, the most horrible diseases. These are powers, gana, but deeppam demoniacal powers. Please try to understand that as this site uses Swamiji’s quotations we expect people who uses it also to be aware of Swami Vivekananda’s complete work. Chetan Arya also pointed what Swami Vivekananda pointed only. Swami Vivekananda insisted that we as normal human should not depend gnanaa miracles, we should try to lift ourselves to higher level.

Please go through Swami Vivekananda’s complete works to understand. Below also gnzna of Swami Vivekananda only: Vol 4 “But you must not mix up Christ or Buddha with hobgoblins flying through the air and all that sort of nonsense. Christ coming into a spiritualistic seance to dance! I have seen that presence in this country.

It is not in that way that these manifestations of God come. The person who was unable to perform miracles can only tell all these miracles are from the Demons, Well! When Jesus was on the earth Jew Priests said He healed the sick with the help of the Demons, but is this true? Let us go through this.! What you see around healing is not that mentioned in The Holy Bible, if you go through it, The man with the Help of GOD only can do or perform these miracles.

There are few prophets who never performed a single miracle. Jesus raised the Dead! Jesus healed and cured people of Uncountable, if it was written this World is not enough. I ask you all these were done with the help of Demons? Then why can’t the Evil-men in the history or present or future defpam do these? Or the Great people said by the world cant even perform a single Miracle? Deeapm Only reason Behind this was What you saw is a LIE.!

Brother first know the difference between The Miracle and The Magic? Magic can be done by many and can be practiced but The Miracles are not! This is the only reason why All the great people told by the world are unable to hnana The Miracles and they even dd not know how these could happen and they could not do them, so they came to a conclusion that deepqm are only performed by the Devils.

Today the Holy Bible is Completed writing and nothing is to be added to it, and no one in the world ever do a single miracle, if they could do then The Gunniess Book will make them known to the world. Even demons said that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Pl read Bible and know the Truth. May Jesus Christ forgive for what you have said above Mr. Dear Deepzm Arya just Miracles is not all about. Bible says in the last days men of demon will rise up and do so many miracles in this world. But the great mens who lived in this world do not including vivekananda or moses or anyone And so people can express their own ideas and try to describe in their own way.

If you want to know Jesus and experience yourself go read bible. Jesus was the only religious leader who shed blood for us. No one else did so. Jesus is the God. It is not always easy to follow everything what Jesus said. For example, “resist not evil” — dee;am is almost impossible to follow it in real life.

Many Christians too do not follow what Christ said. Vivekananda told it in his writing, on one hand some preachers suggest “do not acquire wealth” on the other hand they indulge in saving wealth fro themselves.

Truth does not care about stupid-ass human doctrines or dogmas Comment guidelines for this article Please avoid personal attack to anyone and please try to avoid “anonymous” comments too. Anonymous comment with nothing but personal attack will be rejected. Jesus Christ clearly stated dat he s d oly truth he din tl dat he s also one of the truth!!!!

Even other religious so called leaders came bfr him could booj mke der teachings as gr8 as Christ s teachings!! The reason is simple “sathyameva jayathe” or “truth alone triumphs”. Turn your hearts to Christ Jesus was a yogi, nothing more than that. There is no reason to think he was god. Many Indians practice Yoga.

Christians unnecessarily think that only Jesus can be savior and no one else. He is the only way to heaven.

Yoga is rubbish, yoga asks u to breathe in and out. If you don’t breathe in and out you will die. Jesus was not a yogi.

Jesus Christ is the saviour. He died for you because he loves you. Soshalini, please get ur facts correct before you comment. There is a saying here, if cat closes its eyes, it thinks the whole world is dark. You seem to be such a person. And, as you say Jesus is the only God and saviour. By the way, Jesus came to the Himalayas of India to practice meditation and yoga. That also proves he was a yogi. Jesus amazed the spiritual leaders of the Jews at the age of Who taught who in India is the question.

Is there any scholarly research on it? What do Christians say on this?

Siva Gnana Deepam – Pēraḷam Irēvaṇa Cittar – Google Books

This is such nonsense. Deeepam never stepped foot more than miles from the place He was born. His name is Jesus. The only God who gave up his life for you and i. He is forever God. Everybody lost the the essence of this article.

Both Christ and Vivekanandha taught and asked us to be spiritual and attain God and nothing else. And yet people try to grab their own pieces of god. For once lets lose our barbarian and animalistic division and attain god ourselves.

If my religion divide me from the rest Lets not divide ourselves, for once in history we might have a chance to be united as people. Jesus ,Son of God There is only one God came to the earth years back not to create a religion. He lived a humble life and sacrificed His lif on the cross to redeem the man kind from the bondage of sin.

Jesus said “I am the way ,the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through me “. Anyone who repents to God through Jesus who is the only mediator since He sacrificed His life for the mankind will receive eternal or everlasting life in heaven with God.

This is not a religion. Christianity is not a religion, it is a personal relationship with God. Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven. No other name on the face of the earth can have as much power as that of Jesus.

One of the earliest sources for accounts describing the rise of Constantine.

However, Constantine is very much a side-character as – indicated by the title – this account is not primarily about Constantine as it is the emperors preceding him who attempted to stamp out the Christian communities in their territories. Lactantius’ basic historical argument is fraught with theological assumptions, namely that those who defend the church prosper while those attacking it come to terrible ends.

In one b One of the earliest sources for accounts describing the rise of Constantine. In one breath, Lactantius seems to be exulting in the defeat of the persecuting emperors while at the same time warning both Licinius and Constantine that swift divine judgment will follow should either or both decide once more to take up arms against God by attacking Christians.

One can easily imagine Constantine, for example, taking such a warning to heart along with possibly having read the more developed thought behind this idea in Lactantius’ “Divine Institutes”as he did seem quite fearful of provoking divine judgment throughout his long reign.

On the Deaths of the Persecutors – Lactantius (Serbian translation)

Lactantius’ case later seemed proved once more as, after this writing, Licinius began persecuting Christians and was ultimately defeated by Constantine. Contrary to how it may sound, this is not a vengeful narrative told by a blood-thirsty early Christian glorying in battle and death. Nowhere does Lactantius encourage Christians to seek justice for themselves, or to strike out when struck against – instead, the implication is strong that if Christians will endure all trials and patiently wait for God to act, they may see their vindication with their own eyes.

Christians will then be freed not to seek vengeance of any kind, but to continue as they were before – living their lives and worshiping Jesus together Jul 10, Brittany Petruzzi rated it really liked it Shelves: No one tells you about this one when they tell your to read Fox’s Book of Martyrs. If you read one, you must read the other as well. This might explain Burnet’s long preface against persecuting Catholics and why he translated this book then.

He makes an interesting point about Mohammedan tolerance of other religions. Now there’s Isis, a throwback to the seventh century.

Lactantius: On the Deaths of the Persecutors 1–7 | Keria: Studia Latina et Graeca

Lactantius blames the Jews for the crucifixion though it was the Romans what did it. In the fourth century it could still be believed heaven was above. Where it might be now is more difficult to conceive though believers seem to have no problem with that. Lactantius mentions the aversion to Xians as atheists who should be destroyed therefore as reason for the persecution by Maximian who consulted Apollo who gave the go-ahead.

Diocletian wasn’t going to deny the god.

Lactantius was writing under Constantine who established Xianity as the state religion and of course is crowing like a cock on the dung heap but, for all it’s parti pris and can’t be taken as objective history, it’s still rather a good book from which facts can be gleaned. It’s a disgrace that no amount of publisher’s excuses excuses.

That said, and you read fast over the innumerable misprints made by an illiterate robot, you do get a fairly good idea of what the persecuting emperors did and what happened to them, though Lactantius is following an agenda that begs the truth of his account.

Here indeed is a monumental Faust, an audacious man gotehe wagering with the devil, Mephistopheles, that no magic, sensuality, experience, or knowledge can lead him to a moment he would wish to last forever.

I’ve heard that Walter Kaufmann’s translation is good as well, but he abridged the second part and I wanted to read the entire text by the same translator.

Lists with This Book. Jun 25, Lisa rated it it was amazing Shelves: This is not a review. I cannot attempt to write a review of Goethe’s Faust. It is a much too personal experience, growing with each time I reread it. Since high school, I have been thinking at least five times: After maybe three or four years, I picked up Faust again, and found that I had finally grown up enough to identify with his most famous quo This is not a review.

After maybe three or four years, I picked up Faust again, and found that I had finally grown up enough to identify with his most famous quote, the one I had reverently learned by heart as a student.

Banging my head against the wall today while marking papers, trying to figure out how to explain the developments in the world to my own children and the adolescents I am in charge of, I looked up and literally felt Mephisto’s presence in the room.

Unable to get rid of the feeling, I looked at my shelf with my all time favourites, picked up my Faust, with its almost broken spine, and opened it to read It almost sets my heart burning No wiser than I was before: It almost sets my heart burning. Das will mir schier das Herz verbrennen. Now here I am, a fool for sure! View all 34 comments. Dec 28, Ahmad Sharabiani rated it it was amazing Shelves: Although rarely staged in its entirety, it is the play with the largest audience numbers on German-language stages.

Faust is considered by many to be Goethe’s magnum opus and the greatest work of German literature. View all 5 comments.

Faust (Goethe) – Wikipedie

Mar 15, Stephen rated it really liked it Shelves: Goethe could write his tuckus off. Rarely have I encountered prose that commingles in such bounty the trifecta of being, at once, gorgeous to the eye, imbued with passion and saturated with depth and meaning. I must briefly pause here to i.lektreschlsdel a qualifier to my comments which relate to the version I experienced First impression: I must briefly pause here to add a qualifier to my comments which relate to the version I experienced and not to my enjoyment of it.

Now, that is just about right for Part 1 of Faust and so I thought I was in for a treat as I listened along with my own copy of the novel. Thus, as wonderful as the experience was, I did not johqnn a chance to absorb all of the detail and nuances of the story. I plan to read the complete Faust Parts 1 and 2 in the future and will share my thoughts on the work as a whole at that time.

Faust is visited by Yoethe and offered a life of hedonistic excess and earthly pleasures as a means of gaining greater understanding of the universe.

Faust, who apparently had never watched any episodes of The Twilight Zonefoolishly agrees and bargains away his soul. It was this relationship that I thought received the shortest shrift in the adaptation that I listened to so I i.kektreschlssel leave further thoughts on this until I have experienced the complete work.

The language is gorgeous and drips emotion on almost every line. Some might think this falls too far into the i.lektreschlssdl of melodrama, but I loved i.lektresdhlssel and found it vigorous and passionate. The end is wonderful with the necessary questions answered but certain larger queries left for us to contemplate. A wonderful experience abridged though it may have been and one that I strongly encourage everyone to read.

Aug 23, James rated it really liked it Shelves: I read Johann Goethe ‘s Faust in English and partially in German faaust a college course many years ago. It had a huge impact on me as a person and me as a writer. Due to it being somewhat “out there,” I held back a full 5 rating; however, I cannot stress how much this book makes you think.

Beware, it’s a little heavy on the literary side, but it’s still worth a read, even if you just read the first portion.

That said, 4 i.lektrsschlssel of 5 stars My room was quiet because everyone else was already asleep. I was able to read and consciously take in the contents of the work. As I began goetje the first part, I was a bit disturbed by the fact that it was not in prose, but that it was in poetical verse. I have never been a great fan of poetry as a genre of literature. I wanted to learn something from the story, as I do from all literature. When I skimmed Faust for the first time, I tried to read it for pleasure, but it was a little too hard.

I needed to stop and understand what as going on in each scene.

However, I soon realized that I was able to place myself inside the text in several different ways. It was at this point that Faust actually appealed to me; I saw myself in the novel as the character of Faust, fighting against the devilish Mephistopheles. I have always struggled with wanting everything from material things to the admiration of others. As a man i.lsktreschlssel flesh and blood, I naturally want great i.lekhreschlssel, power and love.

I have always wanted to be number one – a perfectionist – just like Faust. So, while I was reading Faust, I was truly reading a biography of my own life, albeit on a much woofgang scale. I too have lost some faith in my religion, and I wonder if I will be saved; however, unlike Faust, at the time I read it, I had yet to want someone as much as he wanted Margaret Gretchen. I do have the addictive personality that would lead me in the same direction as Faust.

With all of this in mind, I read through the novel as though I were Faust. I took on his persona, argued with Mephistopheles, and wished that I had never been born in the end of the jouann. It is not easy to live a life completely free from the clutches of evil. When you are johaann and in despair, you need help. Often, humans are not strong enough to recognize from whom they are getting johannn. Faust is a man worthy of my admiration. All throughout the book, both Faust and the actions he sought fascinated me.

Like I said before, I felt as though I was reading or watching a movie of my own life. It was as though a dream had come true where I was able to align myself with the devil. I was able to see what would happen if I took on the persona of evil incarnate turned into man.

Faust enabled me to have an out of body experience where I could see what would happen to me if I became what I have always been curious about becoming: Throughout the work of Faust by Goethe, I was able to live experiences vicariously.

Faust enabled me to try things that I only dreamed about trying. I really felt as though I were reading a novel about myself. I think that this is why the Faustian theme has persisted throughout time; men and women everywhere have struggled within themselves fighting between good and evil to achieve their goals and desires. I am no different.

About Me For those i.lektrescblssel to me or my reviews I read A LOT. I write A LOT. First the book review goes on Goodreads, and then I send it on over to my WordPress blog at https: Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
